Hwaa. It's' been a long while... 39 weeks to be more exact, since I last posted an entry. This next entry is an old one but it will do until I am able to compose a more formal update. Jaa, until next time.

If I was an RPG character, I would probably be around 10-20 levels stronger than I was yesterday. I just finished conducting my survey-slash-software evaluation for my game Paintbrush Tactics... and the excessive amount of experience and ego boost that I gained while conducting the surveys felt very rewarding... rewarding not only as a newbie programmer, but as a person as well.
Almost all of my respondents, at first, stared at me with a WTF look on their faces but after I introduced my self and after I told them that they were going to play a game, my respondents lit up and became interested.
The reactions that people had from playing the game blew me away. People actually liked Paintbrush Tactics! They found my characters cute, they enjoyed customizing the color of their character, and of course, they enjoyed playing the game against each other. It truly felt heartwarming to know that something that I created with my very own hands... something that I nurtured for months would give enjoyment and happiness to complete strangers, even if it was just for a few minutes. I toiled hard for this game... and the game got positive reviews, yeah!
The game received good ratings, almost all scores of all 5 criteria played between 4 and 5 out of 5 points. Most of the respondents answered the "What do you suggest?" portion of the survey with flattering praises such as "Great game! Thanks!", "Keep on thriving!" and a simple =). Among the constructive criticism, however, the most common suggestions were that the game needed mazes and more characters, and that the controls were a little difficult. Duly noted, but the mazes will require a lot of work.
What did I learn? I learned that I can let go of my shyness and approach even a group of the most attractive girls and escape with my ego intact. I learned how and when to approach random people and how to politely request them to sample my wares. I learned to be grateful for the time that people spend in entertaining my needs (thanks to Michael Pabale, a blue-blooded Dean's Lister Psychology(?) major, I learned to give "parting gifts" to respondents as a token of my appreciation, haha, some were even surprised and amused that they got candy after the survey).
Here's an outline of what happened:
Rendezvous 1: Jollibee at Petron Square near La Vista
-wrote "jishin" on my palm before the very first survey to remind me to always be steadfast and to always have fortitude
4 Miriam College students lounging outside
-chose girls because from where we were, they were the most attractive (most challenging to approach)
-dove right in at the first, right opportunity
-4 ichinensei bishoujo from Miriam College... Miriamites... or, should I say Knollers?
-my eyeballs exploded one by one, they were uber chick!
-first attempt, fumbled, took too long in explaining how to play, made the mistake of going to the help screen
-a bug in the program! the girls' scores didn't display after they played the game!
-made a quick exit and traced the code for the bug (kuso shimatta... -_-)
Joseph Olido with mom
-age 5, since he doesn't play computer games, mom had to arbitrate in controlling his game character as well as in answering the survey, "Keep on thriving!"
-"Caterpillar!", unfortunately, there weren't any in the characters list
-Name: Joseph Olido (written with an inverted "S")
-first player to get to the high scores list
4 more Knollers
-wai wai, Man, how many pretty Knollers are there? I wish that I was studying in Miriam too.
-very intelligent, I could tell from the suggestions that they wrote on the survey ("the game needs more characters and mazes to create more interest :)")
-makulit, very chatty while playing
-one girl connected with a Dash stun, "I hate you (for doing that)"
-the score bar extended way past the borders XD, time limit too long?
-happy that they received candy
Rendezvous 2: Eastwood, Libis
3 IBM Human Resources specialists, (early/late 20 females) outside Tokyo Tokyo
-a surveyor's dream respondents, extremely friendly
-"Good afternoon. My name is Enzo. This is Pat. We are students of Computer Science. I was wondering if we could request you to play our game?"
-KNEW how to custom colors by tweaking RGB
-enjoyed the game very much, "Great game! Thanks! :)"
-I asked if there were any openings at IBM, haha
-have I been away from voluptuous females for too long? also found them attractive although they're older
-asked if they could play the game again (forgot to set the timer back to 1 minute 30 seconds after some code tweaking)
2 kids from McCafé, Kiria and Sean, ages: 10 and 8(?)
-very bashful but replied truthfully on the survey
-I had to ask permission from mom if I could "borrow" kids for a minute
-mom almost refused, thought that I was selling something, "Ah no. No profit, no profit."
-mom said they weren't fluent in Filipino, had to explain in Japanese... I mean, English XD
-the kids had little to no reactions, Kiria didn't like the game :(
Rendezvous 3: McDonald's at Robinson's Metro East
3 Nursing students at McDonald's
-one of them admitted that she was drunk, also pretty but not as pretty as the Miriam girls, just turned 20
-"What did you drink?"
"Red Horse."
*I firmly nod* "Good choice."
*her classmate snickers*
-very incoherent but speech was still okay, she held my partner close, pinched my cheek, haha
-classmates except 1 politely refused to play the game
a dad with 2 kids at McDonald's
-"Good afternoon..."
"Kakain muna kami."
MISSION FAILED.
Oh yeah. I forgot to mention that my partner was also with me the whole time.
-tactless, kept browsing through the survey sheets in plain view, trying to determine if we hit the quota, even hotel bellboys know to never count tips in public -_-...
-aimless, we kept moving from place to place, we were going nowhere fast so I took the lead and found us my best respondents of the day which is the 3 IBM HR girls lounging outside Tokyo Tokyo
-forgot to tell her to wear something decent, I was in my OJT attire with a school ID
-when I said "tokens for the respondents" (the candy after the survey), thought I was referring to gaming arcade currency -_-...
My other schoolmates who were with us had less of a success on their surveys
-one group, also presented a game, used Visual Basic as language, hired somebody else to program the game, feedback about the game means moot to them
-another group, coded the program their selves, spectacular but was a desktop and file manipulation utility program, not all respondents appreciated and understood
To me, the survey was a success. I had fun. I was flattered by their reactions, ratings and suggestions. I feel very proud unlike before. I am glad that I was able to use my silly, little game to entertain them for a while.
Brand these into your memories, Limit. Such experiences are very fulfilling and contribute to your self-development. Rarely, does such experiences come your way. ... ...haha, maybe I should hit Petron Square and Eastwood more often...
-shot a 220+ point World Record Buck and a 190+ point Record Book buck at Utah in a single match which brought my bag total to 419. My Hunter Ranking jumped from 90.00 to 98.70!!!
-finally slayed the Glutton/Suckmeister with only the Gunblade (no trigger!)!
